Case study · Optics & eyewear
Augenkontakt is an optician in Zürich-Affoltern with its own frame collection, KATZENSEH. We moved its online shop from PrestaShop to WooCommerce in 2024 and rebuilt it on Blocksy in 2025: 44 products, 12 service pages, 9 brand pages and a booking button on the home page.

The brief
Augenkontakt AG is an optician at Zehntenhausplatz in Zürich-Affoltern: glasses, contact lenses, eye tests, sports vision and low vision, with its own frame collection KATZENSEH and brands such as Oakley and Andy Wolf. Until 2024 its online shop ran on PrestaShop.
The project came in two steps. First the shop and its blog moved to WooCommerce; then the whole website was rebuilt on Blocksy — so that services, brands and products sit in one structure, point to each other and lead visitors to the appointment booking.
The challenge
The shop changed platforms twice — from PrestaShop to WooCommerce, then to a new theme — on the same domain, with a blog archive that reaches back to 2019.
At the same time, most of what an optician offers happens in the store. The website had to explain the services, show the products behind them and hand visitors over to the booking tools.
PrestaShop until 2024, then a first WooCommerce version, then the Blocksy rebuild — and content such as the blog archive had to come along each time.
Frames and accessories sell online, while eye tests and contact lens fittings happen in the store — so service pages and products had to point to each other.
Appointments run in the optician’s booking tools, the newsletter in mailxpert and the news in a Facebook feed — the website had to connect all three.
Behind the build
The shop grew in two stages: in 2024 the move from PrestaShop to WooCommerce, in 2025 the rebuild on Blocksy with its own blocks. Between the stages it kept growing with brand pages, and every discipline — from planning to support — stayed with the same in-house team and one contact for the optician.
What we built
Service pages
Glasses, contact lenses, optometry, sports vision and low vision: 12 service pages in five categories. A services grid on the home page links straight to the topics of each one, and service pages carry buttons to book the matching appointment.
Online shop
KATZENSEH frames, reading glasses, Oakley sports eyewear, accessories and gift vouchers in 19 categories. Our own accordion plugin keeps the category tree compact, while colour and price filters narrow the list down to the right frame.
Custom blocks
An ACF block places a row of shop products inside any page. On the glasses page it shows the KATZENSEH collection and accessories, with prices and cart buttons that WooCommerce keeps up to date.
Brands
From the in-house collection KATZENSEH to Oakley, Andy Wolf and NINE Eyewear: each brand has its own page and a card with logo, short text and a pop-up with details. The same card grid also appears on the glasses page.
Front page
A hero slider with news from the store, such as the move to a new location, leads into the services grid, a product slider with a voucher teaser, a blog slider and a newsletter sign-up. A booking button opens the appointment widget.
Inside the project
Most agencies show you the finished site. We show you how it got there. Open any discipline to see what the team did and what it handed over.
01 / Project management
One of our first projects, delivered in two stages: the move from PrestaShop to WooCommerce in 2024, then the rebuild on Blocksy in 2025. Between and after the stages, the same team kept extending the shop, with one contact for the optician.

02 / UI/UX design
On Blocksy the shop got its own front page: a hero slider over an animated particle background, a services grid, product and blog sliders and a newsletter band — in the store’s calm sage green.

03 / Development
A Blocksy child theme with four page templates, content types for services, brands and the team, ACF blocks and custom widgets — plus Woo Categories Accordion, our own plugin for the shop navigation. Booking, newsletter and news feed are connected services.

04 / Content
44 products in 19 categories, 12 service pages and 9 brand pages, structured so that frames, lenses and services link to each other. The blog moved along from the old shop — its oldest article dates from 2019.

05 / Cybersecurity
CleanTalk filters spam from the shop’s forms and account sign-ups in the background, and Solid Security adds a security layer to the WordPress install. Shop e-mails go out through FluentSMTP.

06 / Technical support
The shop is looked after between and after the stages: brand pages followed the first launch, and WordPress, WooCommerce and plugins are updated in short maintenance windows.

Below the surface
Visitors see frames, services and a booking button. Behind them sits work that keeps the shop, its forms and its updates in order.
Woo Categories Accordion, a plugin we wrote, folds 19 product categories into a compact menu — in the shop sidebar and in an off-canvas panel on product pages.
The booking button in the home page slider is wired to the optician’s Dynoptic widget, and service pages link to the matching appointment type.
The front-page slider runs over an animated background of drifting circles, drawn live in the browser with particles.js.
24 articles from 2019 to 2023 moved from the old shop to WooCommerce with their original dates.
Privacy policy, cookie policy, T&Cs, returns and shipping pages were set up with the WooCommerce shop in spring 2024.
CleanTalk checks form entries and account sign-ups in the background, and Solid Security adds a security layer to WordPress.
WordPress, WooCommerce and plugins are updated in short maintenance windows, so the shop stays on supported versions.
PrestaShop, a first WooCommerce version and Blocksy — every stage ran under www.augenkontakt-shop.ch, so the shop kept its address through each move.
What you can expect
We build for the things that last — a platform that is clearer to navigate, more credible to every visitor and genuinely easier for your team to run and grow.
Clear categories, filters and prices let visitors find the right offer themselves instead of writing to ask where to begin.
A site that looks and reads like the quality behind it — for first-time visitors and long-standing customers alike.
Your team updates products, content and news itself — no developer ticket, no waiting in a queue.
New products, categories and languages slot in as the business expands — without a rebuild.
We agree the goals that matter up front and build toward them together — then stay on as a partner after launch to keep the platform sharp as the business grows.
In their words
A shop proves itself when the people who run it every day would take the same path again.
Our shop has moved twice, with the same team behind it each time. Today frames, lenses, brands and our services sit on one website, and customers book an appointment straight from the home page.
